   RUSSIAN VERSION

on may 29, 2004 at the 72nd year of life died suddenly historian and restorer of ancient architecture Wolfgang Volfgangovich Kavelmaher.

Kavelmaher was born in Moscow on 22 January 1933. In 1937 he was sent with his mother in a reference to Vorkuta, where he lived until the beginning of 1950-ies.

Back in Moscow, Kavelmaher graduated from Architectural Institute. In the late fifties he worked belokamenschikom, and since the beginning of the sixties - architect-restorer. Almost all of the further career Kavelmahera was associated with trust Mosoblstroyrestavratsiya", where he worked until the early nineties.

In the 1970-ies Kavelmaher began to use his wealth of experience restorer-practice in research on the history of ancient architecture. His primary focus, as before, remained in Moscow and the Moscow region, but in the range of his interests included the monuments of Vladimir and Tver, Ryazan and Yaroslavl regions. After departure to Germany in the late 1990-ies Kavelmaher conducted research on public relations of Russian and Western European architecture.

In academic circles the most famous fundamental research Kavelmahera on the history of Russian bells and bell towers, iconostases and temples of the Moscow Kremlin, the Trinity-Sergius, Kolomna, Zvenigorod, alekandrova Sloboda and Yuriev-Polsky. But from the works of the researcher published only a small part, and over his enormous archives will have to work more than one generation of restorers and architectural historians.

Kavelmaher was a representative of that glorious constellation of researchers who have made the history of ancient Russian architecture from theoretical disciplines in science, based on archaeological, Assembly and historical factography. And now, when the turbulent flow the primary architectural and archaeological information has turned into a thin streamlet, we have again and again to contact invaluable research in the "Golden age" in the history of ancient architecture, which was fortunate enough to live and work VV kavelmaheru.

Such unselfish ascetics, what was Kavelmaher, science does not forget. Let us not forget Wolfgang volfgangovicha we are.
